Backup
your phone!!! READ THIS IMPORTANT INFORMATION BEFORE YOU START
(derelekt) and other forum
members have already had problems with adding our own movies/tunes and
having the phone act strange on reboot. So please everyone, before you
start expirementing, make a complete backup of your phone via QPST,
backup the file structure via the "EFS Explorer" and backup
your system settings via "Software Download" backup section
or "Service Programmings" save feature (after you read the
info from the phone).
If you do screw up, the results
are not pretty. I was able to replace some of the files I lost because
of a fellow forum member but my programming settings were messed up.
If I had backed them up with QPST before I may have not had this problem.
Anyways backup everything
and take it slow. Also I personally suggest you only add a few new things
of each type, ie.. 3 tunes, 3 ringers, 2 videos...dont add anything
too big also, there are size limits which are listed below in this FAQ...take
note of them.
Take into account that QPST
can be very dangerous to your phone if you don't know what your doing.
At any time something could go wrong. The safest things you can do to
the phone are adding a few ringtones, tunes, and images. Videos are
the next easiest thing to add, but they could cause file storage limit
problems causing phones to reboot endlessly. Games arent very well tested
and would be the highest risk.
People have messed up their
phones storing around 35-40mb of data on the phone in various categories...until
firmware updates happen its highly suggested you keep your "QPST
added" data to around 20mb, to prevent additional risks of storage
limitations. Adding data directly from Get It Now or other phone services
is of course a lot safer.
Storage
limits by section: by
VerizonStore
The combined total of storage
space for videos and mp3 songs are 48 mb. However you can only store
about 6 mb in the ringers catagory. If you want to load mp3 songs to
your phone, you must store them in the tunes section. You can also store
applications in the get it now catagory up to 7 mb. The combined total
for tunes "mp3s" and videos cannot exceed 47 mb. You can check
how much memory you have left by pushing the menu button and goto the
get it now category and then press the right upper soft key for the
info button. then go down to contents memory and it will tell you how
much space you have.
Installing
the Drivers - Prolific Cable (blob in the middle of cable):
- Purchase a USB cable if you haven't already. Get one (and other
cool stuff) here in from eCity
Wireless!
- Driver installation can be tricky. It's very important that you
do not hook up the cable and phone to the computers USB port until
after you've installed the correct software driver in the next step.
- Install Driver by clicking this link. PL-2303
Driver Installer.exe This driver is in the root directory of
the Super CD.
- Hook up cable alone to a USB port on your computer
- The Windows New HardwareWizard won't run, you will see a small
window pop up in the bottom right hand corner of your screen with
the following sequence.
- Found New Hardware - USB to Serial Controller
- Found New Hardware - Prolific USB to Serial Controller
- Found New Hardware - Installed and Ready to Use
- At this point, it's finished and successful.
- The Operating System will not see the phone when connected. This
is very important. Many people email me saying the phone isn't detected.
When using a prolific cable, the phone is not detected by Windows.
You must install a software application to see the phone. See below.
Installing
the Drivers - Straight through USB Cable:
- Purchase a USB cable if you haven't already. Get one (and other
cool stuff) here from eCity
Wireless!
- Driver installation can be tricky. It's very important that you
do not hook up the cable and phone to the computers USB port until
after you've installed the correct software driver in the next step.
- Run the LGUSBModemDriver_Eng_Ver_4.5.exe
in the root directory of the Super CD.
- Hook up cable and phone to a USB port on your computer (phone
must be on)
- TheWindows New Hardware Wizard will start.
- If the wizard does not start did it ever start? meaning, if this
isn't the first time you've hooked up the cable, the wizard may
have ran and installed the driver already. If this is the case,
the wizard won't run again.
- Normal operation. This is what you should see when installing
the drivers.
- The first window asks if you want to connect to windows update
to search for a driver.
Choose "no, not at this time" and click Next.
- The next Window will show that it's helping to install for a particular
device. Depending on the model phone you have, the actual device
listed may vary. Choose to Install the software automatically and
click Next.
- You may receive the following message regarding windows logo testing,
ignore and and click "Continue Anyway."
- The next screen shows that the wizard has completed. Click Finish.
- After you've completed that, depending on the model phone you
have, the wizard may start up all over again automatically. This
is normal. Just answer each prompt the same as above. The Wizard
may run 3 times and install each of the following devices:
- LGE CDMA Composite USB Device
- LGE CDMA USB Modem
- LGE CDMA USB Serial Port
- Once the Wizard doesn't run anymore, the drivers have installed
successfully.
Determining
the Port - Straight through USB Cable:
Many people that request
support for this always skip this step. For any program to talk to your
phone, the program will need to know what COM Port is assignned to the
phone device in Device Manager.
- Right Click your My Computer
Icon, select Manage
- Click on Device Manager
on the left
- On the right, click the
+ sign next to modems (you should see your phone listed there)
- Right click on your phone
and select properties
- Click advanced
- Click Advanced Port Settings
- You will see the COM Port
setting at the bottom (write it down, you will need it later)
BITPIM:
Please Backup your
phone!
- Load Bitpim, click edit,
settings, choose your phone model and appropriate com port.
- Go to View (in menu)
in BitPim and make sure "View filesystem" is checked
- Click the filesystem tab
and click the plus sign. You should see the directory structure of
your phone.
- Go to Data (in menu)
and "Get Data"
- Check all four boxes (PhoneBook,
Calendar, Wallpaper, Ringers), hit ok
- Goto "Filesystem"
Tab
- Right click at the top
of the tree (the first/highest +)
- Click on "Backup
Entire Tree." Let it finish.
- This will save a ZIP of
the phone's EFS.
*remember to always plug the phone in before loading Bitpim.
- This will also download
your phone pictures.
How
to create & load wallpapers with Bitpim:
Adding
Wallpapers:
- Find the pictures on
the cd that you want to put on your phone.
- Change the name if it
has CAPITAL letters to lowercase (keep it short)
- Save it directly to the
"wallpaper" folder under "bitpim"
- This way it will be there
when you go to launch bitpim
- Hook up your phone
- Run bitpim
- Click on the"wallpaper"
tab to ensure that the image is there if not click add and add it.
- Select "data"
from the top toolbar

data"
- A pop-up box appears with
several options to send.
- Select "wallpaper"
by clicking the box to the left of it.
- Select "add/merge"
to add the current files to your phone.
Note: Selecting
"add/merge" adds the files without overwriting what you
presently have on the phone. If you select "replace/overwrite"
all of the files you are about to load will overwrite what you currently
have on the phone. It is always recommended to "add" your
files.
- Bitpim will say "busy"
and a status bar will run at the bottom showing the current files
being loaded.
- Powercycle your phone
to get the files to show up.
Adding
Ringtones:
- Find a ringtone or midi
file ending in .mid on the cd.
- Copy and paste it to
your system under the subfolder "ringers" in the "bitpim"
folder
- Run bitpim
- Select "data"
from the top toolbar
- Select "send phone
data"
- A pop-up will appear
asking what data you want to send to the phone
- Well, for this we will
select "ringtones" by clicking the box to the left of it
- Select "add/merge"
to add the current files to your phone
Note: Selecting "add/merge"
adds the files without overwriting what you presently have on the
phone. If you select "replace/overwrite" all of the files
you are about to load will overwrite what you currently have on the
phone. It is always recommended to "add/merge" your files.
- Bitpim will say "busy"
and a status bar will run at the bottom showing the current files
being loaded.
- Save and quit
- Powercycle your phone
to get the files to show up
How
to create and load QCP and/or MP3 ringers
For advanced users, read thru this before you begin (See also Mp3_1.htm
and mp3_2.htm for different instructions)
Install the following programs from the Super CD
- Qualcomm's purevoice
- QCP player
- SoundForge
QCP
Quality: Poor
(mono, 8 kHz, 16-bit)
QCP files are qualcom purevoice files. In order to get another wave
form sound file to QCP you'll need to conform to QCP standards of PCM,
mono, 8 kHz, 16-bit wave file.
MP3
Quality: Excellent
(any bitrate is fine)
If you don't know what an MP3 is by now you've been in a deep slumber.
Well, wake up. It's the most popular music file out there. I use the
SoulSeek P2P to get MP3s; it's excellent.
- Open Sound Forge
- Get the sound/file you
want (via loading an MP3 or recording)
- Choose a clip to use as
a ringer
- Highlight it and crop
it (edit=>trim/crop)
- FOR MP3s: Save as an
MP3; goto Step 8. For QCPs continue.
- Change the sample rate
to 8kHz (process=>resample)
- Save as a 16-bit mono
wav
Use a short one word name(file=>save as...) to where you installed/uncompressed
the WAV to QCP converter
- Go to a windows command
prompt "Start Menu, Run, cmd"
- navigate to the directory
where you saved the wav file to where the wav to qcp converter is

How
to use the Wireless Internet with Verizon:
I assume that you have gotten
your phone recognized as a device when you hook it up to your computer.
These instructions rely on you to be a little more independant than
other tutorials.
Anything I say about Broadband (as far as instructions go) is complete
speculation.
- Installing your VX6000
as a modem in Windows XP:
- Load the drivers if you
haven't already see top of this page. Express Network is recommended
here.
- Configuring the phone
to work with QuickNetConnect/Quick2Net, Express Network/National Access,
or Broadband
- Make sure that your phone
is attached
- Go to your phone in device
manager
- Click on "Properties"
- Click on the "Advanced"
tab
This is what's called an initialization string. The initialization
string needs to match what's stated below for that specific option
to work... (if you try to use the QNC initialization string with EN,
it won't work)
For QuickNetConnect/Quick2Net(QNC):
AT$QCMDR=2
For Express Network/National Access(EN):
AT$QCMDR=3
I assume this is the initialization string for Broadband:
AT$QCMDR=4
Creating
Dialup Connections with the Connection Wizard:
This is an alternative to using the Verizon Dialer
- Open Control Panel>Network
Connections>"File" menu>"New Connection"
- Click "Next"
- Click "Set up my
connection manually" radial button, click "Next"
- Make sure "Connect
using a dial-up modem" is selected, click "Next"
- Under "ISP Name"
write either "QNC", "EN" or "Broadband"
- Set the phone number to
#777 (for any of the three)
- Next you need to enter
a username...
QNC...
username: vzw
password: vzw
EN...
username: (xxx)xxx-xxxx@vzw3g.com (replace (xxx)xxx-xxxx with your
phone number)
password: vzw
- Click "Next"
- Click "Finished"
Speeds,
Charges, and other unanswered questions:
What
are the speed difference between the three wireless internet options?
QNC: 14.4 kb/s, capped
EN: 40-60 kb/s, as if you haven't heard WITH BURSTS
UP TO 144kb/s
Broadband: 300-500 kb/s, only available in San Diego
& Washington D.C.
What are the charges for each options?
QNC: MOU* with every single Verizon Wireless account.
No other charges apply. *MOU: Minutes of usage, like making a phone
call
EN: .60/min; or $79.99 for unlimited usage/month. If
you still have a copy of the contract you signed/look at your monthly
bill under "Promotions and Other Credits." If you see something
that reads "EN MOU n/c," then you're lucky. That's right,
that translates out to "Express Network, Minutes of Usage, No Charge."
You can use EN for MOU. I did do a test two nights ago by staying on
for five minutes. Now I'm just waiting for my bill.
Broadband: $79.99/month
Remember to call the Tech Department at 1-800-308-DATA with any questions,
or to add any provisions to your account.
How
to set up a WAP proxy & How to set the proxy IP in your phone:
Stuff you'll need:
Sign up & set up a homepage
at TagTag.com
If you search in Yahoo! for WAP directories, you'll find quite a few
good sites. Here's a thread in Howard Forums.
Make sure you know what your site is when you're done. (ex: http://www.tagtag.com/bigflavors-page/)
Install the InfoKomp WAP Gateway from cd
Set it to run as a system service(starts on Windows load)
Get your ip
note that this is not for people running a firewall or a router. you'll
need to figure all that out on your own.
In Windows: run>cmd then type ipconfig and hit enter. Your IP address
is the number next to IP address(ex. 192.168.0.101). :)
- In your phone:
- menu>0>(on Verizon:
000000) or (on USCC: [find what it is by viewing the file nvm/nvm/nvm_0000
in a hex editor. Look on the second line, it'll be 6-digits."*)>9("wap
settings")>1("ip settings")>4("link2-ip1")
*taken from RogerBinns VX4400 FAQ
- enter your ip here
- hit "ok"
- hit "clear"
to go back to "wap setting"
- hit 2
- hit 4
- type in 9201
- hit "ok"
- hit "end"
- start your browser (let
it do it's thing)
- hold the 0 key down for
about 3 seconds
- hit 6("advanced...")
- hit 3("set wap proxy")
- hit 2("wap proxy
2")
- back to "advanced"
- hit 2("homepage")
- hit "ok" to
go through the warning
- enter in your tagtag home
page (ex: http://tagtag.com/bigflavors-page/)
- hit "ok"

GENERAL
INFO
Here are the locations for important files:
\Brew\16452\ --- All uploads go somewhere in here.
mf --- My Flix
mp --- My Pix
ms --- My Sounds
lk\mr --- My Ringtones
\dload\ --- Information
Files
PUTTING PICTURES ON YOUR PHONE
1. Take picture
2. Resize it to something reasonable (like 400x400ish)
3. Open BitPim
4. go to: \Brew\16452\mp\
5. right click on "mp", click "New File..." select
your file.
6. go to: \dload\
7. right click "image.dat", select delete
8. right click "imagesize.dat", select delete
9. Reboot phone, images show up!
PUTTING RINGTONES ON YOUR PHONE
There is a 2mb limit for
Ringtones (buy a memory card, they're cheap and easy to use, you can
use that memory for whatever you like), you can see how much you have
used on your phone by clicking Menu --> Get It Now --> Info (right
soft key). It will tell you how much memory is being used up.
1. Because space is an issue,
I would recommend a much higher compression rate for mp3s as ringtones.
To make ringtones, I use Audacity to edit the music files down to a
reasonable length, then export as mp3. In the File->Preferences section
of the menu, you are able to set the mp3 quality. It's usually at 128k,
which gives you approximately 1 minute / megabyte. I prefer 40k, which
is still pretty high for ringtones, but you can fit much more into 2
megs. You can play around and see what sounds best for the song that
you have.
Example:
12 second mp3 x 128k encoding == 186k
12 second mp3 x 40k encoding == 59k
2. right before you export
as mp3, be sure to maximize the volume by selecting everything, Clicking
Effect ->Amplify, then click OK. Amplify automatically selects the
maximum you can amplify the sound without clipping the loud parts. This
ensures your ringtone is as loud as it can be on your phone.
3. Find your file in windows
explorer, rename the file to [filename].mid, because your phone ignores
.mp3 files. It WILL know how to play them, though.
4. Open BitPim
5. go to: \Brew\16452\lk\mr\
6. right click on "mr", click "New File..." select
your file.
7. go to \dload\
8. right click "my_ringtone.dat", select delete.
9. right click "my_ringtonesize.dat", select delete.
10. Reboot phone, ringtones show up!
PUTTING SOUNDS ON PHONE
Same as with Ringtones, but
put the file in \Brew\16452\ms\, and delete the mysound.dat and mysoundsize.dat
files.
PUTTING
VIDEOS ON PHONE
To load a video onto your
phone, it must be a .3gp file. To convert files to .3gp, I used Mpegable
X4 Live. The company no longer supports the software, but there is shareware
available here: Mpegable x4 Live v2.2
Converting is very straight forward, select input file, select output
destination, select "Mobile Devices (3gpp compliant)", click
the red circle... done.
1. Open BitPim
2. go to: \Brew\16452\mf\
3. right click on "mf", click "New File..." select
your file.
4. go to \dload\
5. right click "video.dat", select delete.
6. right click "videosize.dat", select delete.
7. Reboot phone, videos show up!
MEMORY
CARD
I highly recommend buying
a mini-sd card. I picked up one today from Circuit City with a SD-Adapter.
Plug the card into the phone, reboot the phone, and you will have three
directories,... My Pix, My Flix, and My Sounds... put files in there,
you won't have to mess with the filesystem ever again. Currently I have
two episodes of Family guy converted over, and it's a blast being able
to watch those on the phone. Each 22 minute episode is 15.5 Megs, so
I can fit a whole season on the 256mb card I have.
MEDIA
PLAYER
There's a "secret"
media player on the 8100 that you can access by pressing "menu",
then 0 seven times.
Go to "Get it Now Settings" near the bottom
Again, select "Get it Now" at the bottom of this screen too.
you will see a list of applications on the phone, select "Media
Player"
You can play files in your mf directory, so if you put an mp3 in there,
you can play it with the Media Player. This is the only way to be able
to fast forward through mp3 files on the phone.
Unfortunately, we have not figured out how to be able to read mp3s off
the memory card from the special Media Player.
That's about it, good luck, have fun...
To
access the VX8000 service menu:
- From the main screen,
hit "ok" to enter the menu.
- Make sure the "contacts"
tab is selected, then press 0 (zero)
- The service code should
be all zero's.
To
change Get-it-Now application servers:
- Enter the VX8000 service
menu
- Select #9 "get it
now settings"
- Select #3 "IP/URL"
- Select the server you
want and hit the left soft key to give it priority.
To
add video to the VX8000:
- Connect the cable provided
to your VX8000
- Load up QPST, in particular
the EFS Explorer.
- BACKUP and delete /dload/video.dat
- Browse to /brew/media/
and put a .3gp video file in the folder.
- Reset the phone, the videos
will appear in the "FLIX Gallery" in get-it-now
*just recently got this working,
video files I had put in /brew/verizonmediaplayer/download/ would not
play, but when the same files were put in /brew/media/ they did play,
dont know why but it works now.
**the phone will recognize
the .wmv, .asf, and .3gp formats, but as of current only .3gp files
have played flawlessly. You can convert your video files to this format
by using Quicktime Pro or Nokia Multimedia Converter.
(thanks nemadrol for the program names). The
Nokia program can be found here
To
add ringtones to the phone: by JTPRO
- Connect the data cable
provided to your VX8000
- Load up QPST, in particular
the EFS Explorer.
- BACKUP and delete /dload/sound.dat
- Place .mp3 or .mid files
into either of the following directories: /dload/snd/ /user/sound/ringer/
(you can create this folder if it doesn't exist)
- Reset the phone, the
tones will be displayed in the ringtone section.
**Additional info
supplied by VerizonStore
if you add "ringers"
to your phone, the storage limit is around 6 to 10 mb in that area.
There is no warning or memory checker for that section. So when you
add "ringers" to your phone make sure you only add about 30
seconds of your song to the phone since your phone only rings for about
30 seconds or less. Also make sure the quality of your tunes are only
about 64kbs since the speaker in your phone can't play above that quality.
Add the rest of the songs you like to hear in your "Tunes"
catagory which can hold up to
47 mb of songs which is alot of songs if you change your songs quality
to 64 kbs instead of the normal 128kbs since the lg 8000 speaker can
only play 64kbs quality or less and anything above that would be a waste
of storage space.
To
add tunes to the phone: by JTPRO
1. Connect the data cable
provided to your VX8000
2. Load up QPST, in particular the EFS Explorer.
3. BACKUP and delete /dload/aod.dat
4. Place your mp3 files in the /brew/shared/aod/ directory
5. Reset the phone, the tones will be displayed in the tunes section
**Additional info
supplied by VerizonStore
To add tunes to your lg 8000
phone, you must put the new songs in the brew/shared/aod/ directory.
This will allow you to play your tunes "Songs" on the front
of your lg 8000 by pressing and holding the play button in the front
of the phone for 3 seconds. You can either add new songs to that directory
and delete the aod.dat file or you can create fake files using your
voice to record someting and overwrite that file using your new song
name when adding it to your directory. Its called the overwriting function
instead of adding new songs then deleating the aod.dat file. This way
you don't have to delete any aod.dat or video.dat or any file when adding
a new song or video to your phone.
Also make sure the quality
of your tunes are only about 64kbs since the speaker in your phone can't
play above that quality. You need a music editing software program to
convert your mp3 songs to 64kbs quality. I personally use cool edit
pro but there are hundreds out there on the web that you can use. As
for the sound of the mp3s when you play them on the front of the phone,
the sound is loud and very good quality even at 64kbs. They give you
a hands free headset with your lg 8000 and you can even make the mp3
louder when using the headset.
To
add images to the phone: by JTPRO
- Connect the data cable
provided to your VX8000
- Load up QPST, in particular
the EFS Explorer.
- BACKUP and delete /dload/image.dat
- Place image files (apparently
BMP, WBMP, PNG, WPNG, JPEG, GIF formats) into /dload/img/
- Reset the phone, the images
will appear in the "PIX Gallery" in get-it-now.
- If you want a picture
in the gallery as wallpaper, highlight it and hit the right softkey
"options"
and select #3 "Set As" and then choose an option.
*The internal screen size
is 176x220 but actual picture size appears to be 176x144. I am fairly
certain though that you can use any picture size and it will get rescaled

Some
data cable and network information: by
SDGoose
#Just a few notes beforehand...there
is conflicting data on if the use of the vx-8000 with the datacable
for internet services is a violation of the trial terms of service,
you can read more information about this on pages
4-6.
Just some notes on using
a data cable with the vx8000. I've played with it for a couple hours...
* I used the FutureDial data
USB cable that I bought for my vx6000 last year. The cable works with
the vx8000, but the connector takes a bit too much pressure to make
with phone, so it may not be an exact mechanical fit.
NOTE: the cable *may* be flakey due poor mechanical or electrical fit.
I have had occasional unexplained difficulty connecting to QPST, snapsync
and snapdial.
* I downloaded the newest
FutureDial
USB drivers (dated Nov 2004) from the FutureDial.com site. The driver
supports 115,200 baud. I set the phone to RS-232C(COM Port) at the 115,200
speed.
* I updated my futureDial
SnapSync and SnapDial programs via the futuredial site.
* When configuring the FutureDial
software, I chose LG vx7000 as the phone (VX8000 is not listed).
* SnapDial created both a
2G and 3G dialup network connection (DUN). 2G -- The 2G DUN is set to
use old QNC network and I get transfer rates of about 14Kbps. The phone
display reports "PPP[QNC] Call" when connected.
3G -- The 3G DUN uses EN/EVDO
data network. I used the vzw/vzw username/password. The phone displays
"1x-EVDO Data" when connected within EVDO range and displays
"1x Data" when out of EVDO range. I was getting the full 115Kbps
when connected via "1x-EVDO Data".
I haven't been able to get
a higher speed CABLE connection via the phone's USB setting... will
tinker with that later and see if we can get the data rate up into the
1Mbps range.

- Go to the FutureDial website
and update your driver if you haven't already.
- Install the driver
- Plug
in the cable and phone (dont open up QPST yet)
- In
your phone, go to Settings & Tools
- #5 Call Settings
- #7 data settings
- #2 PC Connection
- #2 RS-232c(COM PORT)
- Adjust your port speed
to 115200. (im assuming you have Windows XP)
Make sure windows is detecting the software--the updated driver should
be detected--if not you'll need to go to the Add Hardware Wizard (right
click on My computer, go to Properties, hardware tab, and there it
is) and just show the computer where the updated driver is located.
- Open up QPST Configuration.
- Click on Add New Port,
and keep entering different COM numbers, like COM1, COM2, COM3...until
your
phone is detected.
- Go
to the EFS Explorer in the QPST program, and then from there on, just
read the first page of this thread and
it will show you how to add tunes.
You dont need any additional
software like SnapSync for it to work..just follow the directions.
Additional
info about going over the memory limits and phone replacements:
by VerizonStore
I did it again. I added too
many videos and tunes to my lg 8000 phone. I went past 40mb in the application
section but didn't go past the 47mb limit in that catagory. I guess
there really is a software flaw if you go past 40mb in the tunes and
video section. Now my phone just keeps restarting itself and turning
off and back on constantly like JTPRO's phone was doing. Thats the bad
news, here is the good news. I just called telesales support line again
and told them that the phone is no good and they shipped me another
new phone today! So now I have three lg 8000 phones. One brand new one
and two that are going to get flashed with new software programming
at my local verizon store. So if any of you guys "mess up"
your phones again, don't worry just call telesales within 15 days and
they will ship you another one no problem. And I guess there is no limit
of how many you fry and get because this is my third phone lg 8000 they
have sent me. So no worries!
Its true what I said. I messed
up two of my lg 8000 phones already and each time I call telesales about
it they sent me a new one over night. I just told them that the phone
they sent me was defective and they said they were sorry for shipping
me a defective phone and will ship me a new one next day over night
and they did!. Of course I didn't tell them that I was messing around
with the phone's file system adding videos and mp3s to my phone. I just
tell them that the phone came to me that way. If your guy's phones mess
up just tell telesales that your phone came like that or if you had
it a long time tell them that when you turned on the phone this morning
after charging it all night, it went haywire. And if this third phone
oof mine goes nuts after i put too much mp3s and videos in it, I will
get another one
through telesales with the same excuss, no worries.
Adding
games:
by VerizonStore
Actually there is a way to
upload games to your lg 8000 phone. However, these games must be in
java oob mode (object oriented programming), and must be less than 6mb
long since you only have 6 mb of storage in your get it now games catagory.
If you do have a java game less than 6 mb of length, using your Qpst
program, goto /dload directory and copy and delete the premium.dat file.
Then goto the /brew/shared/premium/ directory and copy your game file
to that directory. Your old lg 6000 games should work on this phone
also. You can copy your old games from your lg 6000 phone and put them
in your lg 8000 phone.
To
access the hidden media player:
- Enter
the VX8000 service menu
- Select #9 "get it
now settings
- Select #16 "get it
now
- Select
"MediaPlayer"
- Videos need to be stored
in /brew/media/
*I had originally thought
this was the guts of the mediaplayer that plays video in the FLIX Gallery,
just without all the flash. That seems to be untrue, because this player
only recognizes and plays .3gp files, while the one in the FLIX gallery
can at least recognize .wmv and .asf, in addition to recognizing and
playing .3gp files.
**the hidden media player
will only play and recognize .3gp files. Follow the video faq above
for more instructions on how to add the videos.
JUST a little FYI for anyone
with the VX8000. Make sure you do not copy too much media to your phone.
Even though it does have a 64MB internal memory.... it will crash your
phone if you load too much. I am not sure how much "too much"
is.. but for me.. systemfiles + ringtones + flix was at about 42megs..
and when i tried to play a video file that i had saved my phone crashed.
It now just continues to reboot itself and never starts up. I dont think
i can gain access to the phone becuase it will never stay on long enough
to remove some of the added files. Anyway.. be very careful everyone....
sucks.. now i am back to my VX6000 until i can get this resolved.
Flashing
your phone:
I have good news for all
those guys here who messed up their Lg vx 8000 phone with the qpst program.
I did the same thing. I added too many mp3s on my phone and added way
too many videos on my phone and exceeded my 64mb limit. My phone went
haywire and was saying service required. All I did and what you guys
can do is take your phone to your nearest verizon wireless store and
ask to get your phone "Flashed". What that does is they completely
restore your phone's software with the original software that was programmed
on your phone. They did it to mine and now my Vx 8000 works perfectly!
Your phones are still good! Go get them "Flashed" and remember
to not go over the memory limit for each of the phone's catagory.
Tunes
As of right now, get it now does not offer any tunes for download. They
only offer 30 second songs or ringers to be downloaded for your ringtones
and they appear in your ringer catagory in your phone. So until GIN offers
tunes to be downloaded or full length mp3 songs, you cannot use the
overwrite funtion to add mp3 tunes to your phone since there is no song
for you to overwrite in the tunes section of your phone. For now, to
add full mp3 songs to your phone, and to play them on the front of your
phone, you have to add them using qpst to your brew/shared/aod/ directory
and delete the aod.dat file and reset your phone. However you can still
uise the overwrite function to add videos or ringers to your phone and
don't have to delete the video.dat or sound.dat files.
Mp3
You need a music editing software program to convert your mp3 songs
to 64kbs quality. I personally use cool edit pro but there are hundreds
out there on the web that you can use. As for the sound of the mp3s
when you play them on the front of the phone, the sound is loud and
very good quality even at 64kbs. They give you a hands free headset
with your lg 8000 and you can even make the mp3 louder when using the
headset.
